IT’S ‘green for go’ as final preparations are made for this weekend’s ever-popular Edinburgh Meadows Festival, sponsored by Viridor.

The free-to-enter community festival, which will welcome an anticipated 30,000 revellers over Saturday and Sunday, promises something for all in an action-packed weekend for all the family.

Established in 1974, the Meadows Festival has grown to firmly establish itself as a ‘must do’ event in the capital’s cultural calendar.

Bigger than ever, with a record number of stalls, the 2011 festival will offer a menu of live music on the Festival Stage, Taylor’s funfair, Forest Stage and Bar, the Dogs Trust Family Dog Show, Edinburgh Leisure climbing wall, football and an exclusive kids area.

Headline acts include Captain Slackship’s Mezzanine Allstars, The Banana Sessions and The Edinburgh Samba School.

The two-day event has been made possible by sponsorship from Viridor, the leading recycling, renewables and waste company. The company, which works with 96 per cent of Scottish local authorities and Edinburgh’s leading businesses, will place sustainability at the heart of the event through a recycling information tent, recycling and waste hubs and a small army of cleansing personnel.

A visit to Viridor’s on site recycling tent is a must, with the opportunity to win shopping vouchers for individuals and £1,000 for good causes across the city.

Martin Grey, communications manager for Viridor, said: “As Scotland’s leading recycling and sustainable waste partner, Viridor has been at the heart of helping Edinburgh communities and businesses get their trash sorted for over a decade.

“Aligned with leading investment in ‘next generation’ zero waste infrastructure we’re proud to support a range of community events across the capital.

“As headline sponsor we’re delighted to work again with the Meadows Festival, placing sustainability at its heart and giving something back to the city community.”

Fred Mackintosh, convener of the Meadows Festival Association, added: “With Viridor’s help we’re green for go at what is set to be a bumper weekend on the Meadows. The tents are going up, the music stage is ready, the stall holders are raring to go and funfair is going – like a fair.

“Come and join us in the sun over Saturday and Sunday and sustainability will be at the fore through our partners Viridor.”
