THE Avenue Shopping Centre in Newton Mearns has linked with East Renfrewshire Council’s Summer Holiday Programme to deliver an enterprising community initiative whereby, every Tuesday throughout the summer holidays, a group of up to ten primary school children and supervisors will participate in a series of summer entertainments.

Immediately following participation in the events at The Avenue, the group of children will visit community radio station Pulse FM, located in Barrhead High, to record a weekly community news review of their latest activities.

The community initiative with East Renfrewshire Council’s Summer Holiday Programme is just one part of The Avenue’s ongoing programme of free kids entertainment running every Sunday to Thursday throughout the duration of the school holidays – including Funday Sundays, treasure hunts every Monday, entertainment and activities on Tuesdays, creative workshops on Wednesdays and a chance to meet mall mascots Newton and Fearn on Thursdays.

Michelle McCabe, centre manager at The Avenue, said: “Our tie-up with East Renfrewshire Council’s Summer Holiday Programme is just the latest example of our ongoing commitment to community involvement.

“The Avenue prides itself in playing an active role in the local community by providing it with an alternative to city centre shopping culture with a comprehensive range of outlets offering a warm and welcoming shopping experience.

“We consider our retail offering as providing a real community benefit, and are committed fully to ongoing community engagement, as seen through our programme of free events for all the family throughout the school holidays.”

Shoppers attending four activities can pick up a Loyalty Card and win a fab prize.

The Avenue Shopping Centre offers shoppers an alternative to sprawling trolley-dash shopping culture with a comprehensive range of outlets offering a warm and welcoming shopping experience conveniently located on the outskirts of Glasgow city centre.
