THE award-winning Concrete Garden in Possilpark was happy to receive some help from the Morris & Spottiswood team who where working nearby at Queen’s Cross Housing Association in Murano Street recently.

One of the fences surrounding the Concrete Garden had suffered in the last high winds and Morris & Spottiswood financed the supply and installation of a new fence.

“It’s important to Morris & Spottiswood to help the communities around our sites,” commented project manager, Laurence Watson.

“We’ve been building in Murano Street and Garscube Road for some time now and it’s important to us, as a Considerate Constructor, to put something back into the community.”

Father David Wostenholm, at St Matthews, commented; “The Concrete Garden next to our church is widely used by the local community to grow food and flowers or just to enjoy the outdoor space. It’s great that Morris & Spottiswood could donate the fence to help us.”

The award-winning Concrete Garden uses a derelict space next to St Matthews Church and is an example of the SAGE (Sow and Grow Everywhere) aim to revolutionise community food growing across Glasgow.

The Garden was featured on The Beechgrove Garden recently showing how it makes use of post-use scaffolding planters and packing crate trellises.
