ENGINEERING and fabrication company, L&N Scotland Ltd, has invested £200,000 in a new welding development services (WDS) unit as part of its expansion strategy.

Says a spokesperson: “The capital expenditure includes investment in cutting edge equipment such as a Borescope inspection videoprobe, which provides customers with internal high definition images of their welding project at each stage of the process.

“L&N has also boosted its weld procedure and welder qualification services with the appointment of highly respected welding engineer Jason Craig who will manage the new unit.

“Recognised as an industry expert in welding technologies, Mr Craig will support businesses and individuals in complying with welding project specifications and drive forward research and development for clients seeking cost efficient and time saving welding processes.

“The WDS unit can also assist apprentice welders and local colleges in providing training towards welder qualifications.”

The spokesperson added: “L&N supply, repair, refurbish and modify valves, actuator and control panel systems used throughout the global oil and gas industry.

“Other services include weld cladding, fabrication services, and manufacture of subsea control systems and provision of engineering and technical resources, equipment and manpower.”

L&N operations director, Craig Finnie, said: “This is a significant investment for our company but it gives us a competitive edge and sends a strong signal to clients that we are very serious in providing the best available welding authority when it comes to handling their projects.

“Bringing Jason Craig in to the mix is a bit of a coup and strengthens our credentials in weld procedures and compliance.

“This will give clients a quicker turnaround with jobs as we will no longer use a third party for weld procedure qualification and this will all be done in-house under Jason’s supervision.”

L&N managing director, Alastair Chalmers, added: “The investment in equipment and the recruitment of Mr Craig underlines the company’s commitment to continually improve and develop our product and service range.”
