A CREATIVE branding agency in Edinburgh is to increase its operations in the United States, after agreeing a financial deal with Clydesdale Bank.

Threebrand, based in the Leith, currently provides specialist branding support to reputable international names – including Johnnie Walker and Smirnoff.

At present, around 25 per cent of its business turnover is generated through clients in the US, including Heineken in New York and Proximo Spirits in New Jersey.

Clydesdale Bank provided funding to Threebrand – which last year reported an annual turnover in excess of £1.5 million – to the value of £150,000 for international development.

Threebrand, has been helping its clients to create successful brands since it was established in 2004.

It employs 18 staff – including company directors Nick Cadbury, Campbell Laird and Gary Fortune-Smith – who have over 65 years experience in the creative industries among them.

Gary Fortune-Smith explained the business rationale behind expanding the company’s operations in the US: “We have a number of clients in America that we’ve been working with for years, and it is evident that their positive experiences and word-of-mouth endorsements of the company are creating an impression on some of the other companies in the area – particularly in the North-east.

“Over the past year we have been receiving regular enquiries from businesses in the US – predominantly in the drinks industry – looking to employ us for our branding expertise.

“After a great deal of careful consideration, we believe that this is a geographical area worth concentrating on, and we want to focus our energies on expanding our business over there.

“Although Threebrand is an Edinburgh-based company, it is straightforward for us to communicate with our clients in the US via email and teleconferencing.

“Businesses in the US are recognising our ambition and talent and we are eager to take advantage of that and work with them.

“In following through our international growth ambitions, we were keen to secure a partnership with a bank that understood and supported our business development plans.

“Clydesdale Bank has been a breath of fresh air in this respect, and with the security they have offered us, we can now progress with our expansion plans to the US markets.”

Nigel Kerr, business development partner at Clydesdale Bank’s Edinburgh FSC, said: “Threebrand is a fantastic example of a small company that is doing some great work for clients – both at home in Scotland and in various locations overseas.

“Clydesdale Bank is committed to supporting small to medium sized successful companies as they develop, and we are really pleased to be able to offer support to Threebrand.”

Clydesdale Bank’s Edinburgh FSC comprises an experienced and diverse team encompassing corporate banking, business banking, private banking, private wealth management, treasury services, asset finance and invoice finance across all sectors.

It operates a traditional method of banking with funding from deposits used to support investments in the local community.

With a network of 16 Financial Solutions Centres in Scotland and 73 across the UK, Clydesdale Bank’s local banking model ensures that every pound deposited in the area is reinvested back into the local economy in the form of lending to Scottish businesses.
