MUSSELBURGH Racecourse is leading the field with the launch of an iPhone app – believed to be the first Scottish racecourse to join the mobile revolution.

The East Lothian course hopes the app is an ideal way of improving communications, with regular and potential race goers and follows the introduction of a dedicated Facebook page and Twitter stream.

The app provides a host of useful information on fixtures and race days, seasonal highlights, promotional offers, travel to and from the track, food and drink outlets, maps and news articles.

In addition, the app also carries daily race cards for every UK race meeting, video footage of major racing events, and a results service for UK and international meetings.

The app, which is also compatible with iPod Touch and iPad, was designed by Chroma Agency and the Racecourse Media Group and users who have already downloaded the app have given it five star reviews.

One reviewer said: “Not only can I see all the race cards and results for the day out, there is also a helpful map and a whole host of other features about my favourite racecourse.

“The app is stable and well put together and free. Look forward to using it when I next visit.”

Musselburgh Racecourse commercial manager, Sarah Montgomery, said: “There is little doubt huge numbers of our potential customers rely on mobile phones for their information and news so a Musselburgh Racecourse iPhone app was a natural step forward.

“The app is one of the many channels we used to spread the word on what our racecourse can offer and hopefully it all adds to the on-the-day experience of a visit to Musselburgh.

“For seasonal highlights, such as our Ladies Day event, it will be an invaluable tool for the thousands who attend each year.

“The app is packed with useful info and we are really pleased the design team at Chroma grasped what we were trying to achieve.

“The sport and leisure industry is extremely competitive but we make a real effort to stay ahead of the game and finding innovative ways of attracting more people to the racecourse is a top priority.”

The app can be downloaded free from iTunes. Musselburgh is the first Scottish track to launch an app and follows other UK courses including Epsom, Chester, Haydock Park and Goodwood.

Musselburgh is back racing on Monday (Sept 12) with a seven card meeting. Gates open at noon and the first race is at 2.20pm.
