AWARD-winning Scottish seafood restaurant, Mussel Inn, is on a mission to raise funds for fishermen with its latest annual Ladies Charity Lunch and Fashion Show on Sunday 9th October 12.30 till 4.30pm.

Bigger and better than ever before, this year’s extravaganza will feature: a Latin dancing troupe and a grand prize raffle with a basketful of fab prizes up for grabs, including: a free Blythswood Hotel spa; a bottle of champagne; a case of wine; a crate of beer and a cut and blow dry at a top salon.

The £25 ticket to the event, including a free goody bag chockfull of goodies, offer diners and fashionistas a glass of sparkling on arrival, a two course meal with a glass of wine, coffee and petits fours – with all proceeds going to the Fishermen’s Mission, the Royal National Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen.

Matt Johansson, of Mussel Inn in Hope Street, Glasgow, said: “Our Ladies Charity Lunch and Fashion Show is always a fun, popular event.

“After all, the combination of some delicious seafood, a glass of wine and a fashion show forms the basis of the perfect Sunday afternoon for many ladies – with all proceeds going to support a worthy cause!”

The Fishermen’s Mission fights poverty and despair in our fishing communities by providing emergency and welfare support to fishermen and their families 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

Over 13,000 men and women work in the UK’s toughest and most dangerous peacetime occupation: deep sea fishing. At sea, they face death and injury on a daily basis.

On land, many face insecurity and debt – and life for the 50,000 retired fishermen and their dependants is no better, with debt, inadequate pensions and scant savings meaning no respite from hardship once the fishing’s over.

Located at 157 Hope Street, in the heart of the city centre and just a five-minute walk from Glasgow Central Station, the award-winning Mussel Inn is renowned for its passion for its offering of delicious locally-sourced fresh seafood, providing excellent value for money and a quick and friendly service.

Tickets for Mussel Inn’s Ladies Charity Lunch and Fashion Show can be booked now on tel 0141 572 1405 or log onto www.mussel-inn.com for more information.

Notes to editors

  • On average every year 68 fishermen are killed or seriously injured and 25 boats are lost. Fishermen’s Mission port staff and volunteers provide emergency support to the injured and shipwrecked and financial and pastoral care to the bereaved.
  • The number of deaths and injuries amongst fishermen remains unacceptably high. The chance of a fisherman surviving if lost over board are minimal. The Fishermen’s Mission’s buoyancy oilskins initiative is promoting sea safety.
  • The Fishermen’s Mission provides immediate material, emotional and pastoral support as well as providing expert guidance through the benefits system and sourcing long term grants.
  • Mussel Inn is a member of the Glasgow Restaurateurs’ Association, formed to allow a group of widely diverse professionals to exchange ideas with the common aim to promote the excellence of the Glasgow restaurant scene.
