Media Release: Bank of Scotland launches photography competition in search of ‘a slice of Scottish life’


BANK of Scotland has today launched a major photographic competition that seeks to find the perfect image of your slice of daily Scottish life.

Entitled ‘A Slice of Scottish Life’ – and with a prize of £2,000 of multi-media equipment –Bank of Scotland are looking for entries that are genuine, spontaneous moments highlighting the many different aspects of life in Scotland whether that be at home, on holiday, cityscapes or country life.

Entries could also be used in a future Bank of Scotland advertising campaign.

For every accepted entry, Bank of Scotland will donate £1 to Save the Children for projects in Scotland.

Photos should be submitted via the Facebook page where they will then be judged by an expert panel. Judges include professional photographer Matt Stuart; former assistant editor of the Telegraph Media Group Stuart Nicol; and Gordon Laing, communications manager at Blipfoto and ex news editor of The Drum.

Philip Grant, chair of Lloyds Banking Group’s Scottish Executive Committee, said: “Bank of Scotland is part of the fabric of Scottish society and it is important that we continue to engage with customers and demonstrate an understanding of their needs.

“We hope the Slice of Scottish life competition encourages our customers and non-customers alike to get involved and capture images that they perceive as everyday life in Scotland.”

Photographer and competition judge, Matt Stuart, said: “Originality and interesting content is more important than technical perfection.

“One of the best ways to go about getting a great picture is to simply keep a digital camera or camera phone with you at all times, and be ready to snap as soon as you see something interesting.

“The more spontaneous and un-posed, the better.”

All photos entered must:

-   capture a genuine moment of Scottish life

-   include at least one person

-   must not concentrate on people’s faces

-   have never been published before

The deadline for entries is 20th November 2011.
