RADIO Clyde delivers a combined audience of more than 670,000 listeners in Glasgow and the West of Scotland making it easily the most listened to commercial radio organisation in its marketplace.

Listening hours have shot up showing considerable growth for this quarter. Radio Clyde listeners clock up more than 7.2 million hours ‘tuned in’ each week.

Says a spokesperson: “Clyde 1 remains the dominant radio station for audiences across Glasgow and the West according to the latest radio listening figures released today (Thursday, October 27).

“According to RAJAR, Clyde 1 now reaches an audience of 583,000 listeners each week improving year-on-year adding 41,000 to its audience. Similarly, listening hours have increased in the same period and the station can boast a dominant market share of 16.9 per cent. This gives the station 65 per cent more listening hours than its nearest commercial competitor in its marketplace.

“Clyde 1 & Clyde 2 are committed to delivering locally focused products, expertly tailored to their audiences and championing their local communities. The focus on delivering extraordinary hit music, entertainment, news, sport, travel and showbiz both on air and through multiple digital and social media channels continues to engage audiences and ensures that a clear gap is maintained between Clyde 1 and its competitors.

“This approach is paying dividends on Clyde 1 and today‟s figures show that every single key weekday show between 6am – 10pm weekdays has more listeners than any other radio station in its market.

“Breakfast hosts George Bowie & Suzie McGuire have cemented their show as the stand alone, number one choice adding 31,000 listeners. This smashes its nearest commercial competitor with a clear advantage of 158,000 listeners. This show is clearly a runaway success with audiences across Glasgow and the West.

“Since joining in January, Robin Galloway‟s drive time show has proved a massive hit with Clyde 1 listeners. Robin‟s show commands 18 per cent share of the adult listening audience at this time, as does Knoxy, with her mid-morning show. These shows are delivering the highest audience listening figures for more than five years.

“Clyde 1 Superscoreboard commands the envious position of being the number one sports show both across weeknights (6-8pm) and at weekends. It beats off all its rivals with an 18.9 per cent share of the available audience during the week, with 70,000 more listeners than its nearest commercial rival. At weekends the show has increased in dominance with a market share of 25.1 per cent. This gives the show 50 per cent more listening hours than its nearest competitor in the marketplace.

“Clyde 2 remains the highest performing station in Scotland that broadcasts on AM, with a music format. The station reaches 204,000 listeners in Glasgow and the West delivering an unmissable selection of music, high quality entertainment and chat for the over 40s.”

Graham Bryce, managing director Bauer Radio Scotland, said: “We are absolutely delighted that Clyde 1 has extended its lead against its rivals this quarter and further cemented its clear number one position. Every single show during the day, from 6am through to 1am, the following morning has more listeners than anyone else. The length of time the audience tunes in has also increased massively proving we are giving them what they want, when they want it and how they want it.

“We inform, entertain and connect with more listeners than any other commercial broadcaster.

“In what is a very crowded and highly competitive marketplace, we continue to invest in talent, brand revitalisation work and a multimedia approach. Our unwavering commitment to tailoring the very best content for audiences in Glasgow and the West continues to pay off and our audience has grown as a result.

“The Clyde 1 daytime presenter line up is of world-class quality. They continue to bring the best showbiz, up to the minute local and national news, travel, sport, hit music and entertainment, connecting with our audiences personally every day of the week.”
