AROUND 1,000 visitors flocked to a successful new event designed to showcase the very best of North east business yesterday (Thursday, October 27th).

Granite Expo at Aberdeen’s Hilton Treetops Hotel is believed to be the first SME showcase of its kind in the region and was supported by Original 106fm and Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce.

The event was managed by Business Plus Scotland and attracted an impressive line-up of more than 100 exhibitors from an array of sectors.

They were joined by a networking café, workshops, demonstrations, prize draws and seminars on a range of topics.

The event was officially opened by James Milne CBE, chair and managing director of Balmoral Group, who said of the event: “Our region should be rightfully proud of its history of entrepreneurship, innovation and, above all, hard work.

“There are many examples of both local and global success I could give and I am delighted that so many companies have supported this exciting new business opportunity.

“I wish Granite Expo well and look forward to watching the event grow in future years.”

Commenting on the success of the inaugural Granite Expo, event organiser, Brett Jackson, said: “Against a gloomy economic backdrop, this event has shown that there is much to celebrate for businesses operating in and connected to the North east, and we are delighted at how Granite Expo has been received.

“The feedback from the day has been very positive and we are already receiving many enquiries about Granite Expo 2012.”

Gavin Henry, managing director of exhibiting company, SureVoIP, added: “”The Granite Expo was the first of its kind in Aberdeen and was extremely useful to SureVoIP as it allowed us to connect and network with an amazing amount of varied local businesses.”

Seminar leader, Alan Moir of Fyfe Moir & Associates, commented: “Granite Expo 2011 was in my opinion a resounding success, allowing businesses far and near to extol the virtues of their wares and services in a relaxed and informal manner.

“For those not amongst the 800 visitors and the 200 exhibitors, never fear – Granite Expo is here to stay and will I’m sure return in 2012 bigger and probably, if possible, better.”

Fellow seminar host Mike Wilson, of Ecosse Subsea Systems, added: “Granite Expo was a great opportunity for local businesses to. Show their wares outside the big energy shows. There were many networking opportunities which we took full advantage of.”
