A LEADING North east architecture and space planning firm continues to be involved in two major grain storage projects

Inverurie-based William Lippe Architects have recently completed a £1 million extension to the Aberdeen Grain facility at Newmachar as well as the £6.5 million phase one of the  Angus Cereals complex at Montrose Harbour.

The Angus Cereals project began in December 2010 with the first grain arriving in early August 2011.

In construction of the plant, a flat store building was created, along with three silos and three grain dryers.

The project was led by William Lippe Architects in conjunction with Cameron & Ross Engineering and Beedie Mitchel Quantity Surveyors, with Safety Scotland as CDM co-ordinators, Bancon as principal contractors and TH White dealing with fit out and mechanicals.

At a cost of £2 million, phase two of the project is now in planning and upon completion, the drying and storage facility will be capable of storing 60,000 tonnes of grain.  It will eventually be able to discharge direct on to ships on the quayside.

Commenting on the projects, William Lippe said: “Montrose was an incredible challenge with a tight site and a very tight programme; we had a very good team who worked extremely well together to meet the schedule and deliver the project in time for the 2011 harvest.”

Bruce Ferguson, general manager for Angus Cereals, commented: “This project would not have been completed within the timeframe for this harvest if it weren’t for the great project co-ordination support from the Willie Lippe team”

John Paterson, chief executive at Montrose Port Authority, commented: “This important addition to facilities at the Port of Montrose has been constructed with the minimum of disruption to the project and to the port operations.

“This was achieved by the high level of mutual cooperation between William Lippe, architects for the project on behalf of Angus Cereals, and the technical staff of Montrose Port Authority.

“The finished article is a credit to all parties involved and we look forward to the next phase of the project.”
