THIS year’s Christmas Lights Switch-on Ceremony at The Avenue Shopping Centre in Newton Mearns is all set to be a star-studded affair with Karen Dunbar and Sleeping Beauty herself, River City’s Lorna Anderson, from this year’s big Christmas spectacular at The King’s Theatre switching on the lights from inside a glittering snow globe.

And lending a helping hand at the switch-on on the afternoon of Sunday 13th November will be Smooth Radio breakfast show presenters John and Sharon.

The Christmas Lights Switch-on Ceremony is part of a fun-packed afternoon of festivities planned for all the family at The Avenue.

Santa himself will be making an appearance in the mall from 2pm and will launch the spectacular snow globe to get the festivities underway.

And there will be a special performance from teenage singing sensation, Beth Adams, winner of the Open Mic UK Glasgow final.

The undisputed highlight of the festivities will be when Sleeping Beauty cast members Karen Dunbar and Lorna Anderson, together with John and Sharon from Smooth Radio, will perform the Christmas Lights Switch-on Ceremony at 4pm – but there’s loads more in store at The Avenue, including a balloon modeller roaming throughout the mall throughout the afternoon.

Michelle McCabe, centre manager at The Avenue, said: “This year our Christmas festivities will be bigger and better than ever before!

“In addition to Santa and Sleeping Beauty stars, our mall mascots Newton and Fearn will themselves be donning specially made Sleeping Beauty costumes and will be dishing out some special festive goodies for the kids.

“What’s more, they’ll be handing out colouring-in competition forms with free Avenue crayons and a chance to win 10 family tickets to Sleeping Beauty at The King’s Theatre!”

The Avenue’s Christmas festivities will then continue every weekend in the run up to Christmas with Santa making a special guest appearance inside the snow globe to make every kid’s wish come true each Saturday and Sunday afternoon, helped by Newton and Fearn handing out free balloons.

And during the week shoppers can themselves be photographed inside the snow globe for an extra special Christmas prezzie for friends and family.

The Avenue Shopping Centre offers shoppers an alternative to sprawling trolley-dash shopping culture with a comprehensive range of outlets offering a warm and welcoming shopping experience conveniently located on the outskirts of Glasgow city centre.
