WITH Scotland’s attempt to beat the world record for the most people running in kilts just three months away, Perth Kilt Run’s partner charities have linked up with event organiser Steve Bonthrone to enable as many people as possible to train for the 8km fun run.

Starting on Saturday 17 March, personal trainer Steve will lead Saturday morning training sessions for beginner runners on Perth’s North Inch (10am-11am) until Perth Kilt Run race day on Saturday 2 June 2012.
Sessions are £5 on a pay-as-you-go basis or a one-off payment of £45 for 11 sessions. All funds raised will be donated to the partner charities: Perth & Kinross charity PKAVS and the national charity of the British Army, ABF The Soldiers’ Charity. Steve explained:
“The training sessions will teach you the basics of running, from the fundamentals of breathing and pace, to the importance of stretching and correct footwear. You’ll progress each week with the goal of running 8km by race day. If you’re brand new to running or a recent beginner, this is the perfect way to train in a fun and relaxed environment with professional support and the goal of taking part in a world record to aim for.”
The Perth-based fitness guru has been running similar sessions since 2010, during which time he has trained over 40 beginner runners for charity races.  Helen MacKinnon, Fundraising Manager from PKAVS commented:
“Last year, Steve trained 32 runners to take part in the Edinburgh Relay Marathon for PKAVS. The majority were non-runners; some of us didn’t even own a pair of running shoes! Every single team member completed their race and achieved their goal. If you’ve signed up for Perth Kilt Run or want to take part but need support to build your confidence in running, then this is the class for you”.
To register for Perth Kilt Run, visit www.perthkiltrun.co.uk Registration is £10 and is open to anyone aged 15+ and all abilities.
To register for the running classes, call Helen at PKAVS on 01738 567076 or meet on North Inch opposite Rose Terrace on 17 March. Sessions are not restricted to those taking part in Perth Kilt Run; anyone wishing to improve their running technique can attend.
