GLASGOW-based The Urban Pub Company has launched an Urban Management division to offer a specialist licensed trade and retail sector turnaround service to corporate recovery specialists.

On the back of recent commissions to turnaround various licensed trade outlets across the central belt – including Carrigans in High Blantyre, The Bay Horse in Hamilton, The Halt in Glasgow’s West End and The Corona, on the southside of Glasgow – the formation of Urban Management will provide liquidators and administrators with a dedicated management operation to oversee the turnaround of struggling outlets.

Graham Sutherland, managing director of Urban Management, said: “Following a recent rise in the number of enquiries from both corporate recovery specialists and major pub groups, prompted no doubt by the challenging economic environment which is disproportionately affecting the licensed and retail sectors, we have decided to formalise our service to these sectors with the launch of Urban Management.

“This new division will deliver a short-term dedicated management service to distressed licensed and retail outlets with the aim of turning around their operations to make them more attractive propositions to prospective purchasers, safeguarding many jobs in the process.”

Urban Management’s board of directors is comprised of seasoned heavy-hitters from the licensed trade and retail sectors with an extensive track record of experience.

The Urban Pub Company operates a number of licensed premises throughout the Central Belt, including: The Lincoln Inn, on Glasgow’s Great Western Road; 1901 on Pollokshaws Road; The Wise Monkey, Great Western Road; McPhabbs on Sandyford Place and The Scotch and Rye in Summerston.

It also manages a number of outlets on behalf of various pubcos and independent operators.

This management side of the business has flourished in the last six months, adding six outlets to a burgeoning portfolio.
