GLASGOW-based distributor, CG Coffee, is this month introducing renowned Italian coffee roaster, Caffe Carraro, into the UK from new premises featuring a free barista training facility for clients.

Securing the Caffe Carraro distributorship marks a coup for rapidly expanding CG Coffee which, whilst less than three years-old, has sold 60,000 kilos of coffee in its last trading year and doubled the size of its warehouse in Govan from 1,500sq ft to 3,000sq ft.

The Caffe Carraro deal puts CG Coffee on track to increase its projected turnover of £1 million for this year to £1.5 million by 2015.

CG Coffee was established by industry veteran of 25 years Carlos Avila, known in the coffee industry as the front man for Costa wholesale in Scotland for 18 years, together with Gary Wright, who has years of experience in the art of coffee, working with established coffee roasters Matthew Algie and Costa Coffee.

Avila said: “We’re delighted to work in partnership with Caffe Carraro, a passionate family run business, to introduce a new quality coffee and brand to the UK market.

“Caffe Carraro has been roasting coffee in the Veneto region of Italy since 1927 and has since expanded to over 15 countries worldwide.

“And, following research indicating that the licensed trade is now ready to invest in the coffee it sells and is eager to learn how it is prepared, where it comes from and the quality of the beans, we have opened a free barista training facility for clients at our new warehouse.”

CG Coffee’s current client list includes: Italian restaurant chain Di Maggios, North Lanarkshire Council, Costley & Costley Hoteliers, Café Gandolfi and many more.

The new showroom will be opened this month by Caffe Carraro owner Giuseppe Zanandrea and his son Gulio.
