DINERS are urged to go back to 1901 for a taste of traditional Catalonian and Spanish-inspired cuisine at Boqueria Tapas Bar.

Opening on 24 May, Boqueria Tapas Bar is located at 1901, a leading quality gastro pub in Glasgow’s southside.

Taking its name from the world-famous La Boqueria public food market in the Ramblas of Barcelona, Glasgow’s Boqueria introduces traditional, quality tapas to Shawlands.

Manager, Patrick Stapleton, said: “Carrying on 1901’s tradition for live music, Boqueria will feature live Spanish music every Saturday night from 8pm, with flamenco dancers bi-weekly.

“And every Thursday night will be fiesta night with traditional paella cooked in the centre of the restaurant, comprising two of the chef’s choice tapas to start followed by a plate of paella and sangria to wash it all down for only £9.95 per person.”

Boqueria’s delicious tapas selection includes meat dishes of: Spanish black pudding in a red wine reduction; Spanish chorizo sausage cooked in red wine; spicy lamb meatballs in a rich tomato sauce and an Iberico platter featuring Serrano ham, chorizo Iberico, three Spanish cheeses, bread and olives.

Fish and seafood tapas include: deep fried baby squid dusted in paprika with a Marie Rose dip; king prawns in olive oil with garlic, chillies and coriander; deep fried white bait with tequila salsa; west coast mussels in a choice of garlic, white wine and cream or tomato and sweet chilli and lemon and garlic marinated anchovies.

The new bar’s vegetarian tapas selection includes: breaded jalapeno peppers stuffed with cream cheese with a sweet chilli dip; potato and onion omelette; pan-fried Spanish Padron peppers with sea salt and pepper; chickpea fritters with a mint, cucumber and yoghurt dip and char grilled aubergines, peppers and courgettes served cold with a balsamic glaze.

Boqueria also offers vegetarian, meat, seafood and Valencian paella dishes, the latter featuring chicken and seafood topped with a grilled langoustine, as well as a selection of vegetarian, meat and seafood salads and accompaniments.

Boqueria is located at 1534 Pollokshaws Road in Glasgow’s southside.
