THE Pourhouse, one of the newest and hippest new bars in Glasgow’s West End, is packing a punch this month with a full programme of promos and entertainment.

Monday night is Quiz Night with resident quiz master Charlie, Tuesday’s see live performances from Gypsy jazz band Klezmer, Wednesday is poker night, in association with Corona (£5 buy in with Corona bottles for £2) while Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights see DJ sets from Euan, Stuart Johnston and Colin Langan from 9pm. Sunday afternoons are taken up by regular live performance from Acoustic Butterfly from 3pm.

Drink promotions running in May include: Beer Of the Month, Coopers Sparkling Ale (a 5.8% Australian bottled ale 375ml for £2.90); buckets of Corona (five bottles for £11.00 Monday to Thursdays); Rum of the Month, Angostura five year-old plus mixer for £3.00 and cocktails for £6 everyday.

And in addition to the popular Pourhouse regulars, including burgers, Scottish steak and ale pie, beer battered haddock and beef chilli bowl, a new tapas menu has been introduced featuring such mouthwatering items as Spanish chorizo sausage cooked in red wine; spicy lamb meatballs in a rich tomato sauce, strips of beef cooked in a creamy peppercorn sauce, deep fried baby squid dusted in paprika with a marie rose dip and king prawns in olive oil with garlic, chillies and coriander.

Located at 1038-1042 Argyle Street, on the site of the former Gazelle, The Pourhouse is the end result of an extensive £100,000 refurbishment that has seen the outlet stripped back to a shell and redesigned with a variety of quirky, distressed furnishings and fittings, including tables made from recycled leather trunks, graffitied tables and other reclaimed furniture to lend the new bar a ‘shabby chic’ feel.

Graham Sutherland, at The Urban Pub Company, the firm that manages The Pourhouse, said: “Everything about The Pourhouse is markedly different from the Gazelle, including its look and style – which is eccentric and very stylish with quirky decorative features including, meerkats, birdhouses and squirrels dotted around the interior – and its service, which is sleek and professional, but with a laid back comfortable feel.

“And our May programme of promos and entertainment is already proving popular with the punters.”

The Pourhouse stocks an extensive range of premium beers, including a selection from American microbreweries, introducing some new brews to the discerning West End.
