DOODLEMACDOODLE and The Royal Blind School in Edinburgh recently celebrated the launch of the print and Braille versions of doodlemacdoodle’s newest publication Braw Stuff Fae Scotland.

Hosted by The Royal Blind School, the launch gave the staff from Bookspeed and the school the opportunity to meet each other and chat to invited guests.

Earlier in the day Kingsley Dawson, chair of Bookspeed and founder of doodlemacdoodle, met pupils from the school to hear their reaction to the braille and large print version of Braw Stuff Fae Scotland, and the previous two books in the Dynamic Words from Scotland series.

The pupils were thrilled with the books, and enjoyed reading and sharing them with friends.

Bookspeed’s publishing imprint doodlemacdoodle aim is to be inclusive and offer fun, quirky and positive Scottish based books.

According to Dawson, it’s just beginning.

“Reading through our first three books with these lively children was really brilliant; while being part of  a  Braille reading group was a  thoroughly novel experience. The fact that these young people enjoyed the books so much confirmed my view that doodlemacdoodle is on the right track.”

Moving forward into 2012 the Scottish publishers have recently begun working in collaboration with WaterAid.

The next two series, ‘The Couthie series’ and ‘Exploring Scotland’, and all future titles will raise 10p of every copy sold for WaterAid.

Their next book and the following two titles are also being developed in conjunction with Couthie, the Scottish gift and card manufacturer, and will be available later in the year.

Details of ‘Exploring Scotland’ will be announced in June, with all three titles also being published not only in Braille but also in Gaelic.

doodlemacdoodle publish easily-accessible, enjoyable books, enabling them to work in partnership with worthwhile causes.
