CARDONALD College Glasgow is the ‘birthplace’ of many of Scotland’s leading fashion and textiles talents and, this weekend, the pioneering college is set to showcase its newest stars at ‘Assemblage’ – its annual, end-of-year fashion show.

Taking place at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum this Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 June, as part of the West End Festival the show highlights the work of final year students from the College’s renowned School of Fashion, Textiles and Jewellery.

In addition, garments produced from a collaborative project between Cardonald and the ARCH Academy in Jaipur, India, will also be on display.

According to Jacqueline Farrell, head of school for Fashion, Textiles and Jewellery at Cardonald, this year’s graduates are set to carry on the impressive mantle of ex-Cardonald students who have become big names in international fashion.

Eight Cardonald alumni, including young designer, Rebecca Torres, and Faye McLeod, visual creative director of Louis Vuitton, have been nominated for awards at next week’s Scottish Fashion Awards.

Jacqueline said: “Our final year students cannot wait to showcase their collections at Assemblage this weekend.

“By holding the fashion show in Kelvingrove’s main hall it enables our students’ work to been seen by a wide audience, whilst giving the general public the chance to experience a fashion show for free.

“The garments produced are truly outstanding and I’m certain the audience will be impressed.

“This year’s show is going to have a truly international theme thanks to our work with the ARCH Academy in Jaipur.

“On the catwalk will be skirts produced by our students using traditional Indian techniques and a collection will be on show from ARCH student, Kavita Bhagtani.”

Garments will be displayed by students from HND Fashion Design and Manufacture, HND Fashion Textiles and HND Fashion Technology.

The models’ stunning hair-do’s will be styled by leading Glasgow hairdresser, Alan Edwards.

The free shows take place at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum on Saturday 9 June at 12noon, 2pm and 3.15pm and Sunday 10 June at 1pm and 2pm.
