THE achievements of the centre manager at the award-winning Avenue Shopping Centre in Newton Mearns have been recognised with a brace of runner-up awards at a glittering presentation ceremony in London.

Michelle McCabe was named runner-up for two SCEPTRE awards – among the most prestigious prizes of the shopping centre sector – for Manager of the Year – Small Centre and Marketing Manager of the Year – Small Centre – recognising the transformative effect she has had on the shopping centre since her appointment 18 months ago.

Commenting on her latest accolades, McCabe said: “I’m thrilled to be recognised in this way but would emphasise that shopping centre management is a team game and, as such, accept these runner-up awards on behalf of all our hard-working staff at The Avenue.

“And whilst this recognition is most welcome, it is how our customers regard The Avenue that we prize most highly. That’s why I’m particularly delighted that, despite the challenging economic environment, The Avenue is not only fully let, but that market research reveals that over a third of our customers choose to shop at The Avenue for its personal friendly service.

The SCEPTRE runner-up awards follow last month’s presentation of a coveted Purple Apple Merit Award when The Avenue won the strategic/overall integrated marketing campaign category of the awards organised by the British Council of Shopping Centres.

Says a spokesperson: “Both the SCEPTRE and Purple Apple accolades recognise that the fortunes of The Avenue have been transformed throughout last year into a dynamic space offering shoppers an alternative to sprawling trolley-dash shopping culture with a comprehensive range of outlets offering a warm and welcoming shopping experience.

“That transformation has been achieved by reconnecting the Avenue with its younger, family-focused customer base and delivering a marketing strategy which enhanced the entire experience without alienating regular shoppers.”

Earlier this year The Avenue was short listed as a finalist in the Best Shopping Complex category for the inaugural Scottish Entertainment Guide Awards 2012.
