THE award-winning Avenue Shopping Centre is bringing all the fun of the seaside to Newton Mearns this summer.

One of the many highlights in its fun-packed series of free, weekly themed summer entertainment is sure to be when the beach-themed fun and games, including donkey rides, Punch & Judy, candyfloss and ice cream, roll into the Avenue from Monday 16th to Thursday 19th July.

Before that, the summer fun creeps up on unsuspecting shoppers on Monday 2nd July till Thursday 5th July with M&D’s fabulous Amazonia display of creepy crawlies.

The following week, Monday 9th till Thursday 12th July, gives kids a chance to get hands on and creative at The Avenue’s summer craft workshops where they can make everything from sun catchers, secret holiday notebooks, wildlife wind chimes and foam sun visors.

Then on Monday 23rd till Thursday 26th July, Glasgow Science Centre’s Body Works on Tour returns to the Avenue and, from Monday 30th till Thursday 2nd August, The Avenue hosts a sports and Olympics week with a range of activities, including a Giant Wii, Giant Playstation, Olympic Workshop and Scalextric.

And if all that wasn’t enough to be going on with, from Monday 6th August till Thursday 9th August, The Avenue’s Back to School programme of activities features arts and crafts, giant games and storytelling.

There’s even a chance to win a £100 Avenue shopping voucher in a fantastic mall mascot Newton & Fearn back to school colouring competition.

Michelle McCabe, centre manager at The Avenue, said: “Every mum knows that it can be challenging to keep the kids occupied throughout the long summer months – and not all kids like being dragged around whilst mum does the family shopping.

“But our series of free entertainment activities makes it more likely that the kids will be dragging their mothers down to The Avenue this summer!”

The Avenue’s series of free weekly themed summer entertainment runs Monday to Thursday from 10 am till 4pm.

The Avenue Shopping Centre offers shoppers an alternative to sprawling trolley-dash shopping culture with a comprehensive range of outlets offering a warm and welcoming shopping experience conveniently located on the outskirts of Glasgow city centre.
