SCOTTISH university students from across the country will bring their ideas for new businesses to the Scottish Institute for Enterprise’s (SIE) Bootcamp 2012, which starts today at Stirling University.

The three-day intensive residential workshop is designed to cover everything a new business owner will need to know to develop and launch their business over three intensive days of study and practice.

Students will be arriving with an idea and over the course of the three days will be encouraged to develop their idea into a viable new business. They will participate in sessions with established entrepreneurs and business experts designed to fine tune their idea and provide them with everything they need to take the next step.

A second three day Bootcamp 2012 session is also planned from 02 – 04 July.

Fiona Godsman, CEO of the Scottish Institute for Enterprise, said:

“Bootcamp is an annual event for SIE, and every year we’re amazed at the quality of business ideas coming from students right here in Scotland. This week’s GEM report highlights that there is a strong desire from young people to start their own business, and SIE is here to help students turn their ideas into new businesses. Our intention is that Bootcamp participants will reach the end of the experience knowing exactly what they need to do to launch their new business and make it a success. We’re very excited to see what our new batch of participants will bring and how we can help and support them.”

Notes to editors:

1. Since 2005, the Scottish Institute for Enterprise (SIE) has helped students from all disciplines in
Scotland discover their entrepreneurial talent. The mission of SIE is to encourage and help more
Scottish students successfully create and grow new businesses, social enterprises and selfemployment
opportunities.

2. Students in all of Scotland’s 19 Higher Education Institutions are supported by SIE’s national network
of Interns, Enterprise Managers and Regional Business Advisors. Year on year growth in the numbers
of new business ventures and the continual increase in the number of surviving student businesses is a
powerful testimony to the continued success of SIE.

3. SIE’s programme of activities includes regional events, the national New Ventures competition and an
annual summer Bootcamp; an intensive residential workshop designed to fast-track student ventures
from idea to market.
