MG ALBA and Hands up for Trad, sponsors and organisers respectively of the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards, have warmly welcomed the news that the partnership has been shortlisted for an award at the Arts and Business Scotland Awards 2012.

The Trad Awards, which promote excellence in Scottish Traditional music, have been running since 2002 and have been sponsored by MG ALBA since 2008.

The shortlist nomination is in the Sustained Partnership category for partnerships of four years or more that have set standards in creative arts-business collaborations.

Among other partnerships in the same award category are Scottish Power/Celtic Connections (Glasgow Life) and Bank of Scotland/Imaginate.

Simon Thoumire, director of Hands Up for Trad, said: “We are absolutely delighted that our partnership with MG ALBA has been recognised by being shortlisted for the Sustained Partnership Award at the 2012 Arts and Business Scotland Awards.

“Our partnership is an exceptional cultural fit, providing a highly visible platform for the Scots Trad Music Awards, ensuring that with the coverage on BBC ALBA we reach wider audiences across Scotland and beyond. Being shortlisted is particularly fabulous for us,  ahead of the 10th Anniversary Scots Trad Music Awards, taking place in Fort William in December 2012.”

Maggie Cunningham, chair of MG ALBA, said: “We are delighted that the work which MG ALBA and BBC ALBA have done since 2008 with Hands up for Trad to promote Traditional Music and our Gaelic culture has been recognized through inclusion on the shortlist for the Arts and Business Scotland Awards.

“MG ALBA works with a community which is full of Gaelic and traditional music and song and it is vital that we work with the likes of Hands up for Trad to bring this wealth of talent to audiences through BBC ALBA.”

The Arts and Business Scotland Awards are run by Arts and Business Scotland which was first formed in 1986 and is an independent registered Scottish charity

The 2012 Arts and Business Scotland Awards will be presented by Fiona Hyslop MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Culture and External Affairs, in Edinburgh on Wednesday 24th October.
