NASREEN Aksi, a former Scottish Asian Businesswoman of the Year, has gone back to the future with her takeover of the popular Italian Bistro and Partners Suite in Glasgow’s West End.

That’s because Nas, who started her career as a single mum waitress earning a minimum wage, has returned to Italian cuisine following many successful years specialising in Asian restaurants.

On seeing her career come full circle, Nas said: “I worked in Italian restaurants for many years earlier in my career – including spells at North Rotunda Pizzeria, L’Ariosto and Saninno’s – and I jumped at the chance to return to Italian cuisine.

“Glaswegians are renowned for their appetite for both Italian and Indian cuisine and, as a partner in Harlequin Leisure’s Ashoka Ashton Lane, it’s great to be involved with both!

“As a local west ender, I pass The Italian Bistro on my way home every day and it’s such an interesting building with such an interesting heritage and history that I always felt that it had tremendous potential to shine.

“I hope to be able to lead The Italian Bistro and The Partners Suite to fulfil their true potential.”

To that end, Nas has already refreshed The Italian Bistro’s menu and invested in a significant refurbishment of The Partners Suite to give the outlet a facelift and boost bookings.

“We’re currently considering introducing kosher and halal options to the menu, to broaden the appeal of the restaurant to local ethnic and religious communities, whilst retaining its offering of fresh, Italian cuisine,” she said.

“And I’m convinced that The Partner’s Suite, already a popular venue for wedding receptions, represents a valuable community asset, which has so far been under-used.

“My aim is to highlight its many attractions to locals and encourage more local organisations to use it as a base for their activities – whether for zumba classes, weight watchers meetings, networking nights and Rotary Clubs.”

Set back from the main road and sheltered by trees, The Italian Bistro is located in a distinctive and stylish historic building on Glasgow’s Great Western Road, providing a stylish and contemporary dining atmosphere.

Originally home to Kelvinside Railway Station, the charming building is of a finely detailed Italianate villa style.

The restaurant’s a la carte menu offers sumptuous choices to tempt the taste buds with an extensive selection of Italian classics, including pizzas and pastas, and wonderful modern international cuisine, including prime steaks, Scottish seafood and seasonal game, accompanied by a comprehensive selection of cocktails, draught beers and an extensive wine list.

Located directly above The Italian Bistro, the Partners Suite comprises a private cocktail bar, a large sun terrace and up to 120 cover function suite with natural light and a modern and contemporary feel, providing the perfect venue for a range of corporate and social occasions, including weddings, funerals, birthdays, conferences and seminars.
