AN exotic Persian Tent Village is being unveiled this weekend at St John’s Church in Princes Street, the hub of the 2012 Festival of Spirituality and Peace in Edinburgh.
The Tent complex, which features rugs and decoration from Iran and Turkey, will be open throughout the Festival, from August 3rd to August 27th.
It will offer Middle Eastern food, a place to reflect and talk, and will host a whole range of events from music, comedy and poetry right through to workshops and family activities.
The Village started out as one tent at St John’s last year, and has now been expanded due to popular demand.
It is the creation of the dedicated team at the Persian Rug Village emporium in Morningside, which first came to Scotland in 1990, and maintains a close relationship with the Süleyman Demirel University, offering classes and work experience to art students involving carpet creation, maintenance, and repair.
“The Persian Tent Village is a unique meeting place during Festival season in Edinburgh,” says Festival of Spirituality and Peace director, Katherine Newbigging.
“The month of August can be inspiring but exhausting for many people. The chance to ‘water your camel’ in an inviting, unusual and artistic environment will be appealing to many, and we expect to be very busy!”
The Persian Tent Village is being previewed at St John’s Church (Festival Venue 27) on the evening of August 2nd, and is open to the public the next day. It will be endorsed by a range of public figures.
