Media Release: Last chance for research businesses to access world’s largest public research fund

SCOTTISH businesses and organisations are being encouraged to bid for the final round of funding from a €50 billion European programme.

The 7th EU Research and Technological Framework Programme 2007-2013 – more commonly known as FP7 – is open to businesses, universities and institutes involved in cutting-edge research.

Says a spokesperson: “Under the programme, the European Commission will contribute up to 75 per cent of eligible costs for SMEs involved in technological development and research activities, and all of the costs for management, co-ordination and dissemination of the projects.”

The calls address key concerns facing Europeans including:

  • Combating diseases of the brain like Alzheimer’s, depression and schizophrenia
  • ICT in health, material and neuro-sciences and neuro-robotics
  • Innovative solutions for managing fresh water resources
  • Secure clean and efficient energy
  • Combating the threat of drug-resistant bacteria
  • Post-disaster crisis management

Highlands and Islands Enterprise and Scottish Enterprise can assist Scottish businesses find consortium partners and help with the application process.

The Enterprise Europe Network is a European commission funded network of almost 600 organisations in more than 50 countries, each of whom provide free support to local businesses looking to access new and exciting markets. In Scotland, this service is provided by Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Scottish Enterprise and Highland Opportunity Ltd.
