Media Release: Waterloo Road stars make dreams come true in Greenock

TV actor, Philip Martin Brown – who plays teacher, Grantly Budgen, in BBC One’s Waterloo Road – and other stars from the hit TV show will speak at a special evening in the Tontine Hotel, Greenock on Monday 13th August 2012, for Dreams Come True Inverclyde, the local arm of the UK national charity, Dreams Come True.

The evening will start at 7.45pm for 8pm and food will be provided.

Dreams Come True brings joy to terminally and seriously ill children and young people across the UK aged between two and 21 by fulfilling their dreams.

Over the last two decades, the charity has made dreams come true for over 5,000 children.

The Inverclyde group was set up just over a year ago to raise the profile of the charity in Scotland and help make dreams come true for children in Inverclyde and then to the wider area.

This fundraising event is part of a wider challenge by Dreams Come True Inverclyde to raise £50,000 as part of their ‘Great Wall of China’ trek in October.

Philip Martin Brown, who plays teacher Grantly in Waterloo Road, said: “I’m looking forward to helping the wonderful charity Dreams Come True in any way I can.”

Local Dreams Come True co-ordinator, Chris Jewell, added: “We are very grateful to Philip and friends for helping in this way. Dreams Come True truly is a wonderful charity and we want to make as many dreams come true as possible.”

Tickets for the event cost £10 and are available from Chris on 01475 783000 or by email to him at cbjewell@btinternet.com.

Waterloo Road, BBC TV

Waterloo Road is currently filming its eighth series on location at the former Greenock Academy School building which has been transformed into the new Waterloo Road set and production base. Filming started in April this year on an initial 50, one-hour episode commission, to be filmed over two years.

Moving the Waterloo Road production to Scotland is part of the BBC’s move to increase network programming from Scotland and the other nations of the UK, providing a significant boost to the Scottish creative sector.
