METROPOLITAN celebrates its tenth birthday party in style on Saturday 29th September when it brings Café Mambo Ibiza resident DJ, Pete Gooding, to Glasgow for a free party featuring everything from trapeze acts, burlesque dancers, fire breathers, flying ribbon dancers to live bongos, sax and funk and soul bands.
The popular cocktail bar and restaurant in Merchant Square, at the heart of the Merchant City, opened its doors a decade ago and has gone on to win a string of accolades to consolidate its position at the top of Glasgow’s nightlife ever since by proving a firm favourite with regular revellers, party-goers, punters and celebrities ever since.
“We’re pulling out all the stops to make our tenth birthday bash extra special,” said Met manager, Darren Scott.
“Café Mambo Ibiza resident DJ of ten years, Pete Gooding, will headline an evening of glittering entertainment. Café Mambo is synonymous with a cool, relaxed upmarket vibe that fits in perfectly with Metropolitan.
“Pete will be supported by Glasgow’s best resident DJ’s – Fox MacLeod, Scott Strachan and Stuart McCorrisken – and we’ll redecorate Metropolitan for the night to lend it a cool, clubby feel while our courtyard will be extended out into Merchant Square to accommodate revellers.
“And in addition to a red carpet, fire breathers, burlesque dancers and a dazzling variety of other entertainment acts, on the stroke of midnight, flying ribbon dancers will descend from the centre of Merchant Square’s glittery canopy in a dramatic, acrobatic display.”
Upstairs at Metropolitan will feature live piano music, a funk and soul band and a DJ whilst guests can take advantage of a variety of food, drink and champagne offers and table packages.
As a special tenth birthday deal, Metropolitan is running a three-course set menu with a glass of bubbly for £25.95 for the duration of its birthday week.
Metropolitan’s free tenth birthday party runs from 6pm till 3am on Saturday 29th September.

Notes to editors:
- Located on Candleriggs at the heart of the Merchant City, Glasgow’s cultural, fashion and food quarter, Merchant Square offers an eclectic selection of restaurants and cafes.
- Once part of the old Glasgow Fruit Market, Merchant Square is imbued with the history of the area’s dominating Victorian architecture, although today this sense of history blends seamlessly with the distinctly cosmopolitan ambiance that pervades the surrounding cobbled streets that bring the outside in.
