A BAKERY in Crieff, Perthshire, has been awarded the highly prestigious British Confectioners’ Association (BCA) Cup for their consistent excellent standards of their bakery products over the last 12 months.

At the BCA annual general meeting in St Andrews, the 182 year-old Campbell’s Bakery was named winner of the 105 year-old trophy, with managing director, Iain Campbell, being presented with it.

Amongst the products that Campbell’s Bakery excelled in were decorated Christmas biscuits, steak pies, morning rolls and fruit tartlets. The competition is run over a year with five meetings organised by a different host business each time.

The British Confectioners’ Association (BCA) is a UK-wide trade organisation founded in 1905 to promote the sharing of best practice and craftsmanship. Entry to the BCA is by invitation only and is limited to 60 members.

Earlier in the year, Iain’s customers voted for his cupcakes and fruit scones at the Scottish Baker of the Year Awards organised by Scottish Bakers, the association supporting bakers in Scotland.

Their chief executive, Alan Clarke, was delighted with Iain’s award. He said: “Iain’s products received two National Awards in the Individual Cake and Scone categories at the first-ever Scottish Baker of the Year Awards and I am delighted that Campbell’s Bakery have been recognised for not only producing some of the best bakery products in Scotland, but for producing the highest quality products across the UK.”

It is believed Campbell’s Bakery is the oldest family bakery in Scotland.

Said Iain Campbell: “This is a huge honour for Campbell’s Bakery.

“The BCA set very high standards and has some of Britain’s finest bakeries amongst its membership. To be recognised by the UK’s best bakers and to lift the BCA Cup, really is the icing on the cake.”
