Media Release: Reef Subsea awarded contract for Lincs Offshore Wind Farm

REEF Subsea today announced that its subsidiary company, Reef Subsea Power and Umbilical Ltd., with offices in Stockton on Tees and Aberdeen, has been awarded a contract with Lincs Offshore Wind Limited, a joint venture between UK energy company Centrica, DONG Energy and Siemens Projects Ventures.

The contract will see Reef Subsea Power & Umbilical install and bury 14 inter-array cables for the Lincs wind farm.

Reef Subsea Power and Umbilical has been tasked with the installation and burial of 14 high-voltage power cables at Lincs Offshore Wind Farm located 8km off the Lincolnshire coastline.

The wind farm will have a capacity of 270 MW and will transmit power to the National Grid substation in North Norfolk in 2012.

Reef Subsea Power and Umbilical will provide all onshore and offshore project management and engineering for this project, including all transpooling arrangements.

During this project, Reef Subsea Power and Umbilical will utilise their MD3 Cable Plough, and installation spread will be deployed from the Maersk Assister.

In addition to winning this contract, Reef Subsea Power and Umbilical has also recently secured a major contract with Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm Ltd, which is expected to be one of the largest wind farms in Europe, and ordered a Heavy Duty Cable Plough with the capability to bury cables and subsea umbilicals up to 200 mm outer diameter and three-metre bending radius.

Tim Sheehan, chief operating officer of Reef Subsea, said: “This contract with Lincs Offshore Wind Limited is an additional milestone for Reef Subsea, and strengthens our reputation as specialists in the Renewables sector.

“Our workscope confirms our expertise in offshore cable installation and burial, and we look forward to delivering this project to Lincs Offshore Wind Limited.”

Daryl Lynch, managing director of Reef Subsea Power and Umbilical, added: “We are proud to be working on this project for Lincs Offshore Wind Limited, and will put all of our past experience to do a great job for our client.

“Between this and past success of contracts for other wind farm projects, including Gwynt y Môr, we look forward to building up our reputation as the best in our field.”
