Media Release: In case of emergency (I.C.E.) campaign boost

ICEcard

TO support the I.C.E. (in case of emergency) national awareness campaign to promote carrying emergency contact information and medical information with you at all times, ICEcard are releasing a new product so that first responders in an emergency situation will be able to quickly contact next of kin and possibly glean important information to assist in treatment, as well as inform next of kin of the emergency situation.

The ‘In Case of Emergency’ (ICE) campaign was conceived in 2005 and promoted by British paramedic, Bob Brotchie.

It initially encouraged people to enter emergency contacts in their mobile phone address book with the name ‘ICE’ which helped responders, such as paramedics, fire-fighters and police officers, as well as hospital personnel, to contact the next of kin in an emergency.

As part of the ICE initiative, ICEcard have produced a simple product to reach out to people – without mobile phones, or who find it easier to write down the information or have key medical information that should also be available as well as next of kin contact information.

This card is especially useful for young children, the elderly and those with long term medical conditions.

ICE cards are standard credit card sized and come with clear ‘IN CASE OF EMERGENCY’ text and the international First Aid symbol on the front.

The reverse of the card has a fully writable surface which the user can fill in with a ball-point pen. The cards are supplied complete with cardboard protective sleeves.

Says Carol, from Derbyshire: “My dad took ill in the local supermarket. He didn’t have any ID on him and an ambulance had to be called.

“I feel if  we had known about the ICE card and my dad had been carrying one that a lot of time could have been saved for the medics trying to find out who this man is and where does he live, allergies, contact numbers, etc.”
