Media Release: Sell-out Granite Expo to be opened by renowned academic

MORE than 100 exhibitors will take part in a sell-out North-east event showcasing the very best of local business later this year.

And organisers have just announced that Granite Expo 2012 is to be officially opened by Professor Rita Marcella, dean of Aberdeen Business School at Robert Gordon University.

With exhibitor numbers well up on last year, the November 1st event at Aberdeen’s Hilton Treetops Hotel has once again attracted a prestigious line-up of companies operating in and linked to the North-east, including Bupa and Emirates.

Granite Expo 2012 will also feature a business breakfast hosted by Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce, a Business Network Scotland (BNS) event and a series of topical business seminars and workshops.

Professor Marcella said: “I’m very honoured to have been asked to open this event designed to support business growth in the region.

“At Aberdeen Business School we are very keen to encourage entrepreneurship and SMEs in every way we can, in addition to inspiring our students to consider new business start up.”

Aberdeen City Council is supporting Granite Expo 2012 and project director for Economic and Business Development, Gerry Brough, commented: “Aberdeen has one of the highest business start-up rates in Britain and continues to be a main driver of theUK economy.

“Events like the Granite Expo provide a great opportunity for SMEs to promote themselves, network and explore possible new business ventures and potential partnership opportunities.

“Aberdeen City Council is pleased to be involved with this event and to support the area’s businesses to develop and grow.”

Event organiser, Brett Jackson, added: “Building on the success of the inaugural event in 2011, this year’s event is shaping up to provide another great celebration of North-east business as well as offering excellent networking and cross selling opportunities.

“We are delighted that so many local and national businesses from a range of sectors will be present on the day and we are honoured that Professor Marcella has agreed to perform the official opening.”
