Media Release: The smell of cinnamon is drifting… It’s time to prepare for France’s Christmas markets

We’ve selected some delightful happenings for you to get the best of the holiday spirit across the channel

Alsace – Strasbourg’s Christmas market Christkindelsmarik, the oldest in Europe, will host live concerts to add to the already buzzing streets. From 26 November to 31 December.

Auvergne – In Clermont-Ferrand, small chalets sell, local arts and crafts, wines and regional foods. Alongside is entertainment for children and even Father Christmas’s house!

Burgundy – In Saint-Bris-le-Vineux, the market brings together the best food producers in the region along with craftsmen and artists for a gastronomic event! From 19-24 December.

Languedoc-Roussillon – This Catalan market will open in Perpignan on 3 December with a programme filled with family-friendly activities and an ice-rink.

Midi-Pyrénées – In Toulouse, visitors can admire the twinkly lights and its Henri IV courtyard garnished with fairy-like decorations. From 30 November to 26 December.

Nord-Pas-de-Calais – In Lille, from 21 November to 30 December, the main square will be transformed with chalets, a Ferris wheel and an 18 meter-high Christmas tree.

Provence – In the heart of Avignon, the Christmas market will host about fifty craftsmen and merchants in small chalets on the Place de l’Horloge. From 24 November to 1 January.

Rhone-Alps – In Lyon, a magical market will put on Christmas music and carol performances along with local food specialties. From 24 November to 30 December.

Ski resorts in the Alps:

In Les Gets, an enchanted forest will be home to Father Christmas along with pixies, gnomes, elves and other fairytale creatures.

Les Menuires puts on a magical evening with a choreographed torchlight decent by ESF ski instructors, the arrival of Father Christmas and fireworks.

Val Thorens puts on numerous events including hosting Father Christmas, a torchlight descent followed by a fabulous firework display on the 24th.
