Media Release: Oil and gas people voted Smarta, by far

A COMPANY which matches people and skills to vacancies in the oil and gas industry has been named one of the UK’s smartest small businesses.

Begins a spokesperson: “Aberdeen-based Oil and Gas People (OGP) has been included in the Smarta100 which brings together the top 100 most resourceful and innovative small companies.

“OGP matches up to 2,000 companies with the most relevant candidates and in the three years since start up has successfully matched thousands of job seekers with employers.

“Supported by O2 and with Dragon’s Den pair, Theo Paphitis and Deborah Meaden, on the judging panel, OGP now goes forward to an awards final next month (Nov 8) where it will compete for a £10,000 first prize and OGP has pledged to donate any winnings to local charities.”

Oil and Gas People have also been shortlisted for the special award, ‘Best use of Marketing’, for their innovative candidate attraction and clever social media marketing.

Oil and Gas People managing director, Kevin Forbes, said: “It has been a rollercoaster ride over the last three years but we have a small dedicated team and their hard work and devotion has contributed to this award. A public vote on the Smarta100 website will decide the overall winner.

“Being in the top 100 of the UK’s smartest firms is a fantastic achievement but the top prize is still up for grabs and we need the public’s support to help secure it. If we win we will be donating the £10,000 prize to some special causes which are close to my heart.”

Dragons’ Den investor and Ryman chair, Theo Paphitis, said: “The Smarta100 has proven yet again how many exciting, innovative and successful small businesses and start-ups there are in the UK today and I really find them inspiring.

“Some of the 100 are disrupting established industries, some are creating completely new markets and others are simply doing an exceptional job in age-old marketplaces but knocking the socks off their competition.

“It just goes to show that in the face of challenging economic conditions, a credit crunch and reduced customer spending, entrepreneurs and business owners who work hard and think outside the box can still thrive in today’s world.”
