Chivas Brothers celebrates success in ROSPA Awards 2012

CHIVAS Brothers – the Scotch whisky and premium gin business of Pernod Ricard – has had its approach to the prevention of accidents and ill health recognised with two top accolades at the RoSPA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) Occupational Health and Safety Awards 2012.

The RoSPA Gold award and International Dilmun Environmental Trophy were presented to the producer of Chivas Regal, The Glenlivet, Ballantine’s and Royal Salute whiskies and Beefeater gin during a ceremony at the Hilton Glasgow last night.

Says a spokesperson: “The RoSPA’s gold award recognises organisations that maintain high standards of occupational health and safety, while The International Dilmun Environmental Trophy recognises excellence in environmental as well as health and safety management.

“The awards scheme doesn’t just look at entrants’ accident records, but also their overarching health and safety management systems, strong leadership and workforce involvement.”

Gordon Boist, technical director for Chivas Brothers, said: “This is our second RoSPA Gold award win, and the addition this year of the International Dilmun Environmental Trophy makes it a double celebration.

“For the trophy we demonstrated our commitment to the environment through our policies and procedures, implementing technology that improves efficiency while managing the environment, improved recycling and compliance with water regulations, and through effective environmental communication across the business.”

David Rawlins, RoSPA awards manager, added: “The RoSPA awards programme provides well-deserved recognition for the winners and spurs on other organisations to raise their standards of accident and ill health prevention.

“We congratulate Chivas Brothers on its success and encourage it, and all our other winners, to remain committed to safety and health, an approach that is well recognised to be good for workers and the bottom line.”
