Media Release: ThinJack delivers help to Angolan school

Angolan school pupils

WESTHILL-based specialist oil service firm, ThinJack Ltd, has announced that it has delivered stationery supplies to a school in Angola, thanks to the support of Deeside man, Stuart Shaw.

For more than a year, ThinJack Ltd has been supporting a ground-breaking project to provide education to some of Angola’s poorest children at a school in the capital, Luanda, which has been established thanks to the efforts of local man, former teacher, translator and oil worker, Kisuka Baltazar.

He is gradually funding the improvement of the current school using contributions from his own salary and a small number of donations from oil and gas companies working in Angola, including ThinJack Ltd.

As well as providing cash and working to secure donations from other companies, ThinJack Ltd secured gifts of much-needed stationery for the school and, following a call for help earlier in the year, the company joined forces with Deeside-based freelance hydrographic surveyor, Stuart Shaw, to transport supplies.

Stuart explained: “I saw a newspaper article asking for help and I thought I could do something because my work takes me to Angola regularly.

“After three trips, I have delivered 18kg of stationery which must make a small but significant difference to the school. I have a friend who also works in Angola so he will start to take packages on his next trip too.

“Luanda is a place of phenomenal contrasts. One minute you might see a brand new Bentley being driven through the horrendous traffic and a few minutes later see a young girl going to fetch water from the local stand pipe because her family lives without running water.

“There is huge wealth in Angola but it is very ill-divided and I am sure the pens, pencils and paper that ThinJack provide is really appreciated at the school.”

ThinJack’s Guy Bromby added: “We are enormously grateful to Stuart for leading the way in this project to bring crucial supplies to the staff and pupils. There is a huge amount to do but every single item we can get there is a significant step in the right direction.

“We hope that others will be moved by Stuart’s generous actions and inspired to join him in getting these items to where they can help make a real difference.”

Anyone who can help should contact Guy Bromby at gcb@thinjack.info or call ThinJack Ltd on (01224) 330645.
