BROADCASTER and writer, Sally Magnusson, officially opens Billington’s Deli & Ice Cream, Lenzie’s first artisan food and drink outlet, this Saturday (10.11.12) with a signing session of her new book ‘Horace and the Haggis Hunter’.

Lenzie locals, Mark and Sue Billington’s brand new delicatessen, located on the former Peckham’s site next door to the train station at 114 Kirkintilloch Road, specialises in artisan and locally-sourced products with an extensive deli counter featuring homemade meats and a selection of quality products sourced from all over the world.

Mark Billington, proprietor, said: “We offer home-cooked produce – from the meat we slice to the quiches we make to the cakes we bake – most items will be homemade by my wife Sue and our staff. The idea is that customers can choose from our selection of fresh breads and their favoured fillings fresh from our deli counter.”

The centrepiece of the new outlet, though, is Billington’s Ice Cream, hand-mixed on a cold marble slab, where customers can choose their favourite added ingredients, from fresh berries to home-made tablet.

“A mouth-watering treat for young and old, our ice cream is sourced locally from a dairy farm in Fintry,” said Billington.

“We offer seven different ice cream flavours, which are all freshly mixed on our cold marble slab so customers can choose whichever combination of ice cream they fancy, topped off with a hot chocolate fudge or butterscotch sauce!”

With a window seating area where customers can enjoy a selection of teas and coffees, Billington’s Deli & Ice Cream is also a licensed takeaway offering an extensive range of wines, beers and spirits, including the rarely available Joseph Perrier Champagne and the new limited edition 007 Bollinger, whilst this year’s Beaujolais Nouveau will be available on 15th November.

And as well as stocking a range of Christmas hampers, the new food and drink outlet will be launching a series of tastings and event nights, including cheese and wine evenings, food matchings and beer matchings featuring a range of talks from specialists and experts.

Family-owned and operated, the Billington’s have invested a significant sum in their new venture and recruited four new staff, including manager Eleanora Marini, who has extensive ice cream experience, having worked in an Italian gellateria.

Sally Magnusson will be signing her book ‘Horace and the Haggis Hunter’ at 11:00am on Saturday 10th November at Billington’s Deli & Ice Cream, 114 Kirkintilloch Road (just next to the train station) Glasgow G66 4LQ.
