Inverurie Butcher claims top spot at Smithfield Awards

DAVIDSONS Specialist Butchers has once again clinched one of the meat industry’s top awards, at a ceremony held in London last night (Tuesday, November 6).

The glittering Q Guild Smithfield Awards sparkled as the current holder of the UK Butchers Shop of the Year scooped a Diamond Award for the spectacular, Juicy Lucy Steak burger.

Made with prime Scottish steak, a melting centre of Monterey Jack cheese and a sprinkling of pickled jalapenos, the product came in first place with judges at the evaluations held at the City of Glasgow College in October.

The Juicy Lucy Steak burger brings the third Diamond Award home to the Inverurie-based butcher in as many years, with the seven other products entered all gaining Gold Awards.

The prestigious awards organised by the Q Guild is open to all 140 members across the UK and whose products were judged independently by a panel of industry experts.

The awards were presented on Tuesday, November 6 at Butchers Hall in London by acclaimed writer, broadcaster and food critic, Jay Rayner.

Gold Awards were also awarded for Davidsons Bombay Banger (madras and banana), Dry Cured Bacon, Mediterranean Chicken (chicken fillet stuffed with mozzarella cheese and Iberico bellota chorizo, wrapped in serrano ham), and their exceptional range of individual pork pies that were developed for BrewDog – The Stinkin’ Pig (pork pie with Stinking Bishop cheese), The Little Grunt (original pork pie), The Drunken Pig (with apple cider relish) and The Full Boar (with an infusion of BrewDog Hardcore IPA).

Speaking after the event, John Davidson commented: “We are absolutely delighted to once again receive recognition from the Smithfield Awards for our products.  This is our third Diamond Award in as many years and we are very proud of our achievements.

“We are continually producing some of the best products at the UK’s Best Butcher Shop for our customers across the country through our shops, stockists and mail-order website www.johndavidsons.com.
