Media Release: Scottish X Factor contestant to perform at one of Fife’s newest wedding venues

Carphin House

CARPHIN Mansion House has just had a new road installed linking the Mansion House Estate to the village of Luthrie near Cupar.

The house and estate is already providing employment for a host of local people, including wedding and events planner, Louise Barclay, who hails from the East Neuk.

With the addition of this new road, Carphin is set to boost the local economy further and wants 2013 to be the year it becomes much better known for weddings, luxury self-catering and corporate use.

Louise has just booked a Scottish X Factor contestant, Colin Malcolm, who made it to the last 12 in the Over-28’s category in this year’s show. He will perform at the estate as part of a free Open Weekend on 24th and 25th November which will showcase the venue – and its new road – to a local audience.

Said Louise: “We are all very excited that Colin and his band are performing for us in a few weeks.

“He and his brother, Andy, have formed a band and are both very accomplished – they used to play in the band, Healthy Minds Collapse, that were signed to Elton John’s management company and even supported him at Mcdiarmid Park in Perth.

“The timing is perfect as we have just had the new road installed.

“This will be well used by the local community, I am sure, and represents an investment of some £73,000 in the venue by our management team. Carphin has lots of potential and as such we want to set out our stall and show it off.

“Many of the exhibitors at the Wedding Fayre on the Sunday are from the area and local tradesmen have been involved in bringing Carphin, which was in a state of disrepair when it was first taken on by The Fusion Group, the company behind the venue, back to life to now offer five-star facilities.”

Louise has an interesting story to tell as to how she came to be working at Carphin.

“I came for a look around just out of curiosity and was so impressed I actually ended up asking the management for a job as a wedding and events co-ordinator.

“Not only have I booked my own wedding here for 2015 but I am now helping lots of brides, some local, some from further afield, who have always wanted a Scottish Wedding, to plan and organise their own big days. It’s a fantastic job and I am really enjoying it.”

Added Louise: “We thought it was a good idea to offer the flexibility of a whole weekend in case some interested parties cannot make a certain day – they have the choice of both the Saturday and the Sunday now.

“I can’t believe that it was only a few months ago I came here myself to view and now I am actually organising my own event, said Louise, who worked in Anstruther Golf Club restaurant, ‘The Rockies’ for five years.

“I have always worked in the hospitality industry. My experience has been very Fife-based as other jobs for me have included working at Kilconquhar Castle near Elie and the Anchor Inn in Pittenweem.

“I certainly have the local knowledge that brides and other interested parties are looking for. We already work with a top selection of local suppliers here at Carphin.”
