A LEADING North-east road transport firm which has firmly made its mark in the UK road transport sector has launched an additional UK premises as a result of continuous business growth.

Grampian Continental, based in Kinellar, Aberdeenshire, recently launched new premises in Bedlington, Newcastle, which becomes the firm’s third UK base.

The expansion includes a £70,000 investment for the firm with the employment of four new members of staff and the premises will offer easier access to new trade lanes, complementing its European service from the UK.

The award-winning firm, named Scotland’s European Haulier of the Year 2012, has shown significant growth in the last year with an expansion to its premises in Aberdeen, the launch of the firm’s second European base in Verona, Italy, and an increase to its modern fleet.

The new Bedlington premises boast a 205 square metre warehouse along with an acre of yard space.

The opening of the office is part of a five-year investment for the company and will see the firm expanding into new trade lanes within the UK focussing mainly on London, Manchester and North-east England.

Finance director for Grampian Continental, Neil Bremner, said: “We have received some good feedback already on the new Bedlington premises.

“This allows us to concentrate on the international markets to offer easier transportation of loads for new and existing customers.

“We see Newcastle as a key hotspot within the UK haulage industry and have plans to further grow the office and client base in the area.”

The opening of the Italian premises provided a platform to service the firm’s existing Italian customers and grow the international business, as far a field as Romania and Turkey. The Verona base boasts a 1,100 square-foot office and 1,500 square-foot of warehouse space.

The firm, launched in 2009 by Gavin Murray, Neil Bremner and Michael Lacey, works with more than 500 clients delivering a large percentage of work for the oil and gas sector to support exploration projects with logistical requirements.

Grampian Continental operates a varied modern fleet with the capability of transporting a diverse range of loads, from 1kg up to more complex loads, such as 80 tonne offshore structures.
