Media Release: Aberdeen charity celebrates year of growth

Send-It

ABERDEEN charity and social enterprise, Send-it, has celebrated the end of a year of growth.

For the financial year to May 2012 turnover grew to £250,000 and many new customers were added to the portfolio during the course of the year, including Aberdeen’s premier print and signage company: Compass Print Holdings Ltd.

Now based on the city’s John Street, Send-it started life in the 1960s as part of the Unicorn Enterprises social enterprise project at Aberdeen’s Royal Cornhill Hospital.

Nowadays, Send-it provides work, skills and training opportunities to adults who are disadvantaged from the jobs market, such as people recovering from mental health difficulties.

Services offered by the Royal Mail accredited organisation include direct mailing, digital printing and distribution services and clients include Aberdeen Performing Arts, Aberdeen Football Club, Specialist Cars, Beaver Healthcare Equipment and Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce as well as various oil and gas operators and service companies.

Send-it manager, Jenny Thomson, said: “We are delighted to have grown the business during the past year and, as well as adding new clients, we are also working on new projects such as regular repackaging contracts which require global distribution.

“In addition, after a quiet spell, business from the car industry is showing an upturn and this is a significant income stream for our organisation.”

She added: “Our work with Compass Print is an important part of our business and, working collaboratively, we are able to ensure that large fulfilment jobs are honoured within the local area.”

Compass Print Holdings Ltd managing director Ken Massie added: “We worked with operations supervisor Ranald Currie and his team during a very busy 2012.

Since our establishment in 1974 we’ve relied on suppliers who match our high standards of quality and service – Send-it have contributed in this regard.’’
