THE UK’s market leader in vibration health, safety and tool management has celebrated a new business landmark by ensuring 30,000 plus workers across the country are covered by its HAVmeter safety device.

Reactec hit the milestone of 30,000 this month, which means that thousands of people in the UK working from the construction and manufacturing to grounds maintenance and local authorities are now using the technology in order to improve safety and exposure to hand arm vibration.

The landmark figure has cemented the fact that the HAVmeter system is now viewed as the industry standard for maintaining vibration safety in the workplace and is used by all size of companies in the UK – including Balfour Beatty, Aston Martin, Tarmac, EDF Energy and the Environment Agency.

By using HAVmeter technology, workers who regularly use power tools and other vibrating equipment are able to accurately monitor their exposure to vibration in order to limit the chance of them contracting crippling injuries such as Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS).

Jim O’Hagan, managing director at Reactec, said: “We are delighted to announce that 30,000 workers across the UK are now covered by our HAVmeters to monitor their exposure to vibration and limit the dangers of working with vibrating equipment.

“Unfortunately, HAVS is still one of the biggest issues facing any industry that works with power tools on a regular basis with over 50 per cent of all industrial deseases being HAVS related. Developing the syndrome deteriorates use of the hands and can leave victims in extreme discomfort and unable to complete the simplest of tasks.

“Inaccurate time sheets are still being heavily relied on by many companies who try and estimate the amount of vibration exposure amongst their staff; however the majority of companies are realising that they need a more accurate and streamlined system that helps take the most effective actions to lower HAV exposure.

“With this level of workers now covered by the HAVmeter solution, our system is clearly the best and most trusted method of helping to manage vibration safety in the workplace.”

The sales landmark comes after Reactec secured a number of recent high profile deals for its HAVmeter solution across the construction; ground maintenance and tool hire sectors – including Balfour Beatty and Aplant.

Under the HAVmeter system, every employee has access to a HAVmeter device that uses their individual vibration exposure action levels and tool use to calculate in real-time their exposure points in line with HSE’s methodology.

The HAVmeters flash a warning when the levels are reached and completely automates the reporting of all HAV, worker and tool activity so managers can better understand what actions are needed to reduce HAV further.
