TV celebrity chef, Martin Blunos, has just the tonic to spice up your Valentine’s Day.

The popular Michelin-starred food maestro has newly-created tempting chocolate Buckfast Passion Pots with Hearty Treats.

And the tasty dessert is guaranteed to set hearts aflutter as Buckfast Tonic Wine – one of the main ingredients – is regarded as an aphrodisiac in the West Indies.

Martin, who has appeared on BBC1’s Saturday Kitchen and Channel 4’s Masterchef Australia and Iron Chef UK, said: “Buckfast is really versatile and an amazing ingredient for both sweet and savoury dishes.

“Locals in the West Indies regard Buckfast as an aphrodisiac and mix it with coconut milk so my new Buckfast Passion Pots with Hearty Treats, heart-shaped Valentine biscuits which accompany the chocolate pots, are a superb blend for a romantic evening on Valentine’s Day.”

He added: “Chocolate is sensual and full of flavour and Buckfast, with its fruity and aromatic notes, is the perfect ingredient for this romantic recipe.

“The heart-shaped shortbread biscuits, which are sandwiched together with a delicious soft Buckfast vanilla caramel, are amazing when eaten with the chocolate passions pots.”

Martin first discovered the real potential of Buckfast Tonic Wine in cooking whilst working at the Ideal Home Show in Glasgow when a visitor supplied a bottle and asked Martin to create recipes using the wine which is exported by J Chandler & Co (Buckfast Ltd) all over the world.

The red wine helps to enhance the flavours and brings out the best of the dishes as the alcohol is cooked off.

Stewart Wilson, sales manager, J. Chandler & Co (Buckfast) Ltd, said: “We are delighted to have a worldwide renowned chef in Martin Blunos identifying how well Buckfast works within cooking.

“Martin has vast experience working within the food industry – he has held two Michelin stars – and he also had the honour of cooking for Her Majesty The Queen during her Jubilee year.

“He has produced some fantastic dishes so far using Buckfast as the key element of his recipes, with more in the pipeline. He will be demonstrating theses dishes at various events across the UK in the coming months.

“By using Buckfast Tonic Wine within recipes, we are hoping that people realise the true identity of a quality product.”

The Latvian chef has created a Christmas pudding, Mulled Pears and Buckfast Fruit Loaf, The Triple B (Buckfast Beef Bourguignon) and Sticky Buckfast Ribs using Buckfast – a high-quality French wine which is brewed by monks at Buckfast Abbey in Devon.

Many business owners have used Buckfast to create various dishes ranging from black pudding and cheesecakes to pies.

Martin will be demonstrating his recipes at food festivals and events throughout the UK in 2013.
