The National Theatre of Scotland’s production of
Black Watch by Gregory Burke, directed by John Tiffany
returns to the UK in 2013

THE National Theatre of Scotland’s production of Black Watch returns to the UK in 2013.
Black Watch will play at the SECC in Glasgow from Wednesday 28th March to Saturday 13th April, supported by ScottishPower, before performances at UAE Sportspark as part of the Norfolk and Norwich Festival from Wednesday 17th – Saturday 20th April.

Critics are invited to review any performance in Glasgow after Friday 29th March, and in Norwich the performance on Wednesday 17th April.

Following the 2013 UK performances, Black Watch will return to the US, visiting Seattle (25th April – 5th May) and San Francisco (9th May – 16th June).

The production has now played to over 212,000 people, across four continents, winning 22 awards.

Most recently, Black Watch made its Asian debut at the National Theater of Korea, Seoul, in October 2012, having previously that year toured the US, visiting Washington DC and Chicago.

Black Watch has been showcased in festivals and venues in Australia, New Zealand, Glenrothes, Glasgow, New York, London, Toronto, Virginia, Wales, Salford, Coventry, Dublin, Los Angeles, Pitlochry, Aberdeen, Dumfries, Dingwall and Edinburgh.

Hurtling from a pool room in Fife to an armoured wagon in Iraq, Black Watch is based on interviews by Gregory Burke with former soldiers who served in Iraq.

Viewed through the eyes of those on the ground, Black Watch reveals what it means to be part of the legendary Scottish regiment, what it means to be part of the war on terror and what it means to make the journey home again.

John Tiffany’s production makes powerful and inventive use of movement, music and song to create a visceral, complex and urgent piece of theatre.

Black Watch director, John Tiffany’s production of Once (Tony Award for Best Direction of a Musical) is currently playing on Broadway and opens in London in March 2013.

Also directed by John and playing on Broadway in 2013, from 7th April to 30th June, is the National Theatre of Scotland’s production of Macbeth.

Tiffany’s creative partnership with Black Watch associate director (Music) Steven Hoggett continues this year when they bring the cult Swedish romantic horror film Let the Right One In to the Scottish stage, presented by the National Theatre of Scotland, Marla Rubin Productions Ltd and Dundee Rep.
