Media Release: Chippy serves up fundraising dinner in aid of local town


A NORTH-east chippy has enlisted the help of some well known chefs and local businesses to raise funds for its hometown after it was hit by devastating floods.

Owner of The Bay Fish and Chips in Stonehaven, Calum Richardson, has rallied together celebrity chef, Nick Nairn, and owner of Ondine in Edinburgh, Roy Brett, along with local businesses to help raise funds for the Stonehaven Flood Fund.

The Bay, which was last month crowned the UK’s No1 Fish and Chip shop will be serving up a tasty three-course feast at the fundraiser which is being held at Drumtochty Castle, Auchenblae, on Saturday 2 March.

Every penny raised at the event will go towards the fund for the town of Stonehaven after it experienced severe flooding just days before Christmas last year where hundreds of residents had their homes hit, leaving some so badly flooded they were unliveable.

Mr Richardson has gained incredible support from celebrity pals and local businesses for the event.

Drumtochty Castle has donated the venue and staff for the evening, Sandy Kenneway from Dunnottar Wine and Spirits has donated the wine and Burnside Brewery has even brewed a new beer especially for the occasion.

Mr Richardson said: “I decided to organise the event to give something back to the community as it has shown me so much support.

“We rely on the local economy and the sea plays a huge part in our business. The Bay was very lucky to only be mildly affected by the floods.

“I was approached by Roy Brett at the time of the flooding and together we came up with the event. I have to thank the local businesses for their donations, as without their support the event would not be possible.”

The Bay has a drive and passion for the environment, its local community and sustainable produce. They have been heavily accredited over the last 18 months for their commitment to sustainability and being able to operate their business in an environmentally friendly manner, and the business is considered a leader in the fish and chip industry.

The menu for the event will have a strong focus on local, seasonal and sustainable produce with each chef including Mr Richardson cooking a different course.
