A CHINAMAN, an Indian and an Edinburgher all met up in a kitchen… It might sound like the start of a joke but, in fact, it’s the start of a fantastic new culinary venture bringing the world on a plate to The Quay Complex in Musselburgh.

Yet despite its international offering, the launch of The Quay World Banquet is a distinctly family affair.

The brainchild of renowned entrepreneur, ‘Secret Millionaire’, Charan Gill MBE and his daughter, Jaspreet, the duo have invested £160,000 into transforming the Quay’s restaurant and kitchen to create its novel ‘one kitchen, many cuisines’ concept.

Jaspreet Gill, director at The Quay, said: “The idea behind our World Banquet is to bring together various cuisines from different parts of the world so that when families are dining out there is no need for an argument about which restaurant to go to, because our World Banquet offers food to suit everyone’s tastes!

“And we’ve recruited a brigade of chefs from India, China and Edinburgh to prepare a range of dishes from around the world, including pizzas, pastas, Indian, Chinese, sushi, Thai, a carvery, a burger station (without the horsemeat) and vegetarian options as well as a kiddies corner, soups and salads and desserts.

“Our menu will change monthly, so there will always be fresh options available to diners!”

Charan said: “The World Banquet fills the gap in the restaurant market created by the current economic climate for somewhere that families can eat delicious food in a welcoming environment with good service and a great atmosphere at a sensible, set price.

“We have deliberately set our prices at a level to encourage families to come and dine with us on a regular basis rather than for special occasions only and, judging by the local response, our ‘one kitchen, many cuisines’ concept is proving to be extremely popular.”

The Quay World Banquet offers lunch banquet (Monday to Saturday) for £8.50; a weekday evening banquet for £11.99; Friday and Saturday evening banquets for £13.99 and a Sunday all day banquet for £9.99 with children’s options available at all times.

The Quay Complex is located just five miles from the centre of Edinburgh on the A1 at the picturesque harbour of Fisherrow in Musselburgh, overlooking the Firth of Forth.
