Media Release: Businesses given extra time to perfect award entries

NORTH-east businesses have been granted extra time to perfect their entries for one of the North-east’s most prestigious business awards.

The Grampian Awards for Business Excellence 2013, has received more than 400 registration forms.

The great level of interest in this year’s awards has prompted Enterprise North East Trust (Enterprise), which runs the awards, to extend the closing date for entries from Friday 1 March to Friday 8 March.

The high-profile awards, in association with The Royal Bank of Scotland, recognise and reward the hard work of entrepreneurial businesses and individuals in the region, with categories including The Grampian Award for Innovation, Employer of the Year, Entrepreneur of the Year and The ‘Spirit of Enterprise’ Award, a new category in this year’s awards aimed at recognising an individual or group that has overcome significant challenges to establish their business.

Gary McEwan, chief executive of ENET, said: “We’ve been surprised by the huge level of interest shown in the registration stage and is why we made the decision to be generous and give candidates extra time to complete their applications.

“The large amount of registrations will undoubtedly lead to a large amount of applicants, which result in some really high-quality finalists and winners.”

Mr McEwan added that a helpful top tip guide to help applicants fill out their entry form is available on the ENET website.

“We want applicants to ensure their excellence shine through right at the beginning of the application and short listing, and hope that by giving people an extra week to complete their entry forms will help fine tune their submission.”

Mike Fergusson, RBS director of Commercial Banking, added: “I’m delighted that RBS has supported the Grampian Awards for Business Excellence for over a decade.

“Through our partnership, we continue to focus on supporting SMEs by linking them with other businesses, industry experts and the Government to help them succeed.

“As ever, we’re looking forward to working with the Enterprise North East Trust and helping in the search to find the top businesses and entrepreneurs in Grampian.”

The black tie awards ceremony will be held at Mercure Ardoe House Hotel on Thursday 27 June 2013.
