Media Release: Beattie praises ‘destination shopping’ strategy

GORDON Beattie, chair of retail marketing agency, Only Retail, today praised Tesco’s aim of turning its stores into retail destinations.

Says a spokesperson: “The supermarket giant announced its plans after agreeing to buy family-friendly restaurant brand, Giraffe, for £48.6 million.

“The deal comes just weeks after Tesco took stakes in Harris + Hoole’s coffee shops and bakery chain, Euphorium.”

Gordon Beattie said: “In-store cafes and restaurants are not a new concept but Tesco is learning, as others have before them, that supermarket shoppers want more enjoyment from their shopping experience.

“I congratulate Tesco on this investment which will pay rich dividends as the longer a shopper is in a store, the more they will spend on groceries and other goods and, if they enjoyed their visit, the more often they will return.”

Only Retail is part of Beattie Communications Group, one of the UK’s largest PR consultancies and marketing groups.

Only Retail, which has eight offices across the UK, offers retailers everything from web marketing to public relations.
