EIGHT years after completing his lifelong dream by skiing across the frozen wastes of Antarctica to reach the South Pole, Craig Mathieson, head of VAT at leading independent accountancy firm, French Duncan, will give free presentations on his Polar expedition in Glasgow in May and June.

Hauling his 200lb sledge for over 730 miles, Mathieson had to endure temperatures of below -60c, hunger and injury to achieve this ultimate feat of endurance.

He finished the epic adventure in 56 days, despite his partner dropping out suffering with hypothermia and frostbite.

The Royal Scottish Geographical Society officially recognised this expedition as the first ever Scottish expedition to reach the South Pole.

Thereafter, in 2006, Mathieson led an expedition to the Geographic North Pole. Following mental and physical preparation and training, the team was successful in taking a previously inexperienced 16 year-old Scottish school boy to the Pole.

Mathieson said: “My philosophy is that any goal is achievable; as long as you have the correct attitude. That will be the key message from this talk, which will stress the importance of planning and leadership and hopefully help inspire people to realise their goals, whatever these might be.”

Mathieson’s presentations are from 5.30pm to 9pm on Thursday 2nd May and Thursday 20th June at the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Glasgow, 232-242 St Vincent Street.

Anyone interested in attending can book a place by contacting Madeleine Canning or Hilary Walker on (events@frenchduncan.co.uk) or 0141 221 2984.
