Media Release: Voluntary Arts Week shines a spotlight on amateur arts and crafts


TAKING place across the UK and Republic of Ireland from 11 – 19 May 2013, Voluntary Arts Week celebrates amateur arts and crafts activity in all its diversity.

From choirs to crochet groups, folk dancers to floral arrangers, wood turners to weavers, millions of people have discovered the fun and relaxation arts participation can bring – and want others to join them!

There are lots of ways to get involved. Groups can hold open rehearsals, run taster sessions, create outdoor performances or simply badge an existing event as part of Voluntary Arts Week.

New for 2013, is the first ever ‘CraftBomb’, where crafters of all persuasions are encouraged to take their creations outside and decorate their neighbourhoods.

A free ‘CraftBomb’ pack available on the Voluntary Arts Week website tells you all you need to know about getting involved.

Voluntary Arts Week is run by Voluntary Arts, the UK-wide development organisation for amateur arts and crafts. But the real stars of the show are the thousands of amateur arts and crafts group who regularly bring cultural activity to their local area.
